01

Initial Inspection: We inspect your key and lock brand, verify profile, assess wear, and confirm authorization for high-security systems before recommending best approach.

02

Blank Selection: We match exact key blank to brand and profile, cross-reference codes, choose material, then verify compatibility with your lock or padlock, including vintage and utility.

03

Cutting & Finishing: Using calibrated machines, we cut to precise depths, deburr and polish edges, clear shavings, and perform quality checks to ensure smooth turning, fit, and accuracy.

04

Test & Handover: We test the new key in your lock when possible, make adjustments, label and package it, provide tips, and confirm smooth operation before final handover.

FAQs

  • How long does key cutting usually take?

Most standard house or office keys take 2–5 minutes per key once you’re at the counter. Padlock, tubular, and disc-detainer keys typically take 10–20 minutes. Antique or custom keys may require test-fitting and can take 30–60 minutes or a same‑day/next‑day turnaround. High‑security or restricted keys may require authorization and ordering blanks, adding one to three business days. Bring the working key or the lock for best results. Walk‑ins welcome; call ahead for current wait times and availability in your area.

  • Can you cut high-security or restricted keys?

Yes—many high‑security and restricted keys can be cut with proper authorization. We service brands such as Medeco, Mul‑T‑Lock, and Abloy. You’ll need the key control card, authorization letter, or account verification, and government ID. Keys stamped “Do Not Duplicate” require proof of authorization. When documentation is missing, we can advise next steps or contact the issuing dealer. Some restricted blanks must be ordered, adding lead time. For compliance and accuracy, please bring the existing key and relevant paperwork to copy.

  • Can you make a key if I’ve lost the original?

Yes. We can originate a new key by code (from the lock or a recorded key number), impression the lock, or decode it by disassembly. For door locks, rekeying the cylinder and issuing fresh keys is often fastest. Proof of ownership/ID may be required, and restricted systems need authorization. Mobile service is available in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph. For some high‑security platforms, we’ll need the key control card or authorization on file.

  • Can you cut keys to code from a lock or key number?

Often, yes. Many mailbox, filing cabinet, desk, padlock, and some door cylinders can be cut accurately from a stamped code (e.g., on the lock face or key tag). Bring the lock, a clear photo of the code, or the code card. Restricted/high‑security systems require proper authorization. If the code is missing or unreadable, we can impression or decode the lock. Turnaround is usually same‑visit; special blanks may require ordering.
